Seth Christie, the Supervising Technical Director on the Madden NFL project at Electronic Arts, and a MS CS alumni, visited DPA engaging in discussions with faculty and students. Seth also presented a talk on "Madden NFL: “Surprise Features” in Complex Code."
The Boy Who Cried, a short film by Dr. Eric Patterson and DPA alums Dan Hale, Evan Hicklin, Kunta Lowe, Paul Obeid, Mandy Smoak, Margaret Wages, and John Welter, was a finalist at The Oaxaca International Film Fest in Oaxaca, Mexico and screens again in October as an official selection in The Poe Film Festival in Virginia, and at The Orlando Film Festival.
DPA 8600 project, Mocking Bird, will be screening at the Reedy Reels Film Festival at the Peace Center this November. This is the 4th straight year DPA films have been accepted into a professional juried event with Clemson winning "Best Animation" for the past 3 years. [watch

DPA Alumnus Alex Beaty has worked in animation, layout, and as a director for Blur Studio where he worked on animation layout for the new Netflix series “Love Death & Robots.”
DPA Alumnus Pratham Karnik is a compositor for Gradient Effects in Culver City, CA where he completed shots for the new TNT series “I Am the Night.”

Once again, DPA had a strong presence at this year's SIGGRAPH conference in Los Angeles, CA. Students visited DreamWorks where they introduced the two new shorts they worked on during this summer under DreamWorks mentorship. DPA is once again excited to host the DreamWorks Summer 2017 program, a ten-week intensive production event, in which students will work under the mentorship of top supervisors from DWA and produce two shorts to be released end of the summer.
David Eberle, senior simulation software engineer at Pixar Animation Studios, visited DPA and gave a presentation on "Simulation at Pixar: Wrangling Newton's Second Law." The event took place the the Watt Family Innovation Center auditorium. [flyer]

DPA MFA professor, Dr. Sophie Joerg, receives CAREER award from the National Science Foundation on finger animation research, a new project that could lead to more realistic hand movements for animated movies, video games and a range of virtual reality simulations. Read more
