Subject: Assn1 troubles

I think I have successfully installed a new kernel and
remotely rebooted netlab-gw. The current kernel appears
to allow raw socket access by unprivileged users.

Be <<VERY>> careful when testing this program!!!!

If your program is defective it can effectively
<<LAUNCH A ping flood DoS ATTACK ON THE MACHINE YOU
ARE PINGING>>.

Thus you should NEVER ping an off campus machine
unless you are 100% certain your program is working
correctly.

For initial testing you should limit your pinging to
hosts jmw and jmw7-res1.

Before logging out you should ALWAYS be sure that you
are not leaving any "phantom" processes running. This
situation is common for novice pthread programmers.

Use the ps -aux command to ensure that the only program
running under your id is your login shell at the time
you log out.

You should ensure that your program works correctly

(1) if you or another user is running a ping

(2) if ICMP error messages arrive while your program
    is running.
