Subject: Reminder regarding collaboration (This message is being sent to all CPSC 101 section 302 students) Two students made a rare and wonderous error in fade.c. Namely they both incorrectly (1) overrode the parameter factor with a hardcode factor = 0.5; in fade_ppm_image() and then (2) they both needlessly repeated the override in the other two functions. Needless to say, this makes me wonder if my "no collaboration rules" were being ignored. I encourage you all to take special care to ensure that you do follow the rules. To be honest, if your solution is 100% correct and you take reasonable steps to disguise your collaboration, it can be quite difficult to detect collaboration. But oddball errors such as this JUMP OUT OF THE PAGE out like a sore thumb 110% of the time. Hence the only (fairly) safe time to collaborate is if you are 100% sure what you are turning in does not duplicate a "STRANGE and WONDEROUS" error that is instantly recognizable. But if you can do that, then you necessarily understand how to do the assignment correctly! Neither of the students involved here asked me for help -- Even if you are not intentionally collaborating, if you do stuff like leave listings lying around, leave your directories unprotected or loan your computer to another student, you leave yourself open to serious charges if another student takes advantage of your carelessness. Also please remember that extra credit is available for students who turn in collaborators.
