Directions for running the VR demos are listed below. While the demos are interesting and fun, please remember to be responsible and gentle with the equipment. Note: Source code for the demos can be found at VR Coaster - /pub/demos/cpsc/coaster/src Mars Rover - /pub/demos/cpsc/mars_rover For the demos listed below, follow these directions first: - turn on first 4 switches on the base unit under the small television (labeled "helmet" and "chair") - from your vr account, go to cd /pub/demos/menu - execute the following command from that directory: /pub/demos/bin/buttonfly (if the window has only one set of demos (SGI) then it's not the right one) - select "Clemson University Demos" - select "Computer Science Department" ------------------------------------ VR Coaster - press the "VR Coaster" button on the buttonfly screen - when the display appears, use F7 to grab the window and position it so that it is the only display visible on the screen a left click on the mouse will release the window - on the unit on top of the small television, turn the left knob to HELMET/BOTH and the right knob to HELMET - a click of the middle button on the vr mouse will start the coaster ride - press 'q' in the window on the monitor display to quit - if you can still hear the music (or if you had to restart the coaster for some reason), kill any coaster processes that did not terminate - turn switches back to the original positions - turn off 4 buttons on base unit ------------------------------------ Height Simulator - before running, execute the following in a terminal window set_vr_vga the screen will now be in VGA mode - press the "Height Simulator" button on the buttonfly screen - when the display appears, use F7 to grab the window and position it so that it is the only display visible on the screen a left click on the mouse will release the window - on the unit on top of the small television, turn the left knob to HELMET/BOTH and the right knob to HELMET - press 'h' in the window on the monitor display to toggle control to the vr mouse - on the vr mouse, left button - go forward along line of sight right button - go backward along line of sight - when finished, press 'h' in the window on the monitor display to toggle control back to the workstation mouse - press 'q' in the window on the monitor display to quit - in a terminal window, execute set_vr_normal to return the monitor to its original resolution - turn switches back to the original positions - turn off 4 buttons on base unit
