Short Curricul(um)(a) Statement: Students come from many backgrounds. They are expected to complete any missing undergraduate computer science coursework, and graduate level coursework in algorithms, systems (operating systems, languages, and compilers), architecture and hardware, numerical analysis, artificial intelligence, theory of computations, and VLSI. Many of these courses consider parallel and distributed computing issues, and there are occasional special-topics courses on parallel computing, parallel algorithms, etc. Relevant research involves parallel algorithms, multiprocessor operating systems (especially, parallel I/O and file systems), distributed system security, multiprocessor architecture, and parallel programming languages. Remarks relevant to courses offered (e.g., to list courses rather than research activities): Must complete six of eight of the above courses, and four advanced courses of your choice. Four written certification exams. Oral thesis proposal. Dissertation and defense.
