Materials

For some of the topics, instructor notes will be made available during the semester; technical papers, hand-outs, and web information will be used in the discussion of most other topics. Please see: “Fair Use Guidelines” at http://www.lib.clemson.edu/copyright/

Course Description and Content:  The objective of this course is to introduce you to current research topics in software engineering and languages.  The emphasis will be on discussion, led by a student or a faculty member.  Though some classes may have formal presentations, the focus will be on understanding research ideas through informal discussion.

Grading Policy:  Your performance in this course will be evaluated by participation.  Participation is defined as raising at least one question in every other class that leads to discussion.  You will also need to read assigned papers.  If you have signed up for multiple credits, in addition to participation, you need to make a presentation and/or document your investigation of some research topic.

Attendance Policy: Attendance is mandatory.

Learning and Feedback:  We expect to foster a nurturing learning environment based upon communication and mutual respect.  We will give serious consideration to any suggestion as to how to further such a positive and open environment.  We encourage you to give feedback on various aspects of the course, including but not limited to content, exams and labs, style, and treatment.  Please feel free to express your opinions during the classes or in the office hours.  Your feedback is important for improving the quality of this course and that of graduate education in computer science, in general.
