Course Description
August 18, 2009

The purpose of this course is to help you to acquire and build the skills needed to solve problems in visual computing. Most employers in visual computing express the desire to find and hire people who know how to solve problems. To accomplish this, we will learn how to use Unix and to write code using the various languages used most often in visual computing environments. We will also learn to use the tools and packages that are available for Visual Computing. We will begin by becoming comfortable with the unix operatings system, which is used in virtually all graphics departments in industry. We will learn to write code using various languages, including Python, HTML and C. We will also become familiar with some important application programmer interfaces (APIs), including Pygame, OpenGL and GLUT. We will learn how to build and display sprites and images and how to automate many of the manual processes needed to build a visual environment.
