Story Boards for Turtle-Tastic

Concept
[TitleScreen]
  • A sea turtle journeys through the ocean attempting to stay alive long enough to grow to adulthood and reach the deep ocean.
  • The game plays as a side scrolling shooter, with animated sprites, parallax scrolling, and multiple enemy types.
    1. One type of enemy will be other sea creatures, such as sharks and large fish.
    2. The other type of enemy will be human garbage floating in the ocean.
Title Screen
[TitleScreen]
  • System: Loads up the title screen for the user
  • Two buttons are clickable-"New Game" and "Credits"
    1. By clicking "New Game", players start a new game with a baby turtle.
    2. The "Credits" option allows the player to view the credits
Information Display
[TitleScreen]
  • "Lives" tells how many chances the player has
  • "Score" tells the player's overall score
  • "Level" tells the level the player is currently on-the player must reach level 5 in order to win
Controls
[TitleScreen]
  • The arrow keys move the turtle around on the screen
  • The space bar fires the turtle's bubble ray
  • The escape key pauses the game
Game Play
[TitleScreen]
  • The goal of the game is to guide an endangered turtle through its life
  • This is done by destroying enemies and avoiding touching them
  • The game is over when either the turtle reaches level 5 and adulthood or the turtle dies
Background Processing
[TitleScreen]
  • The computer keeps track of the current level, lives, and score
  • After a certain number of enemies have been defeated, the level increases
End of the Game
[TitleScreen]
  • At the end of the game the credits are played
  • The credits can also be accessed from the starting screen
