The Second Software Product
Line Conference
August 20,
2002
Research in software product line practice and industry use of those ideas have advanced to a point that product line topics are being introduced into a number of university curricula. The spreading use of software product line practices in industry is also resulting in an increase in industrial training courses. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a forum in which both academic and industrial educators can exchange experiences and ideas. The topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:
· The appropriate places in the graduate and undergraduate curriculum for product line topics,
· What specific topics or hands-on projects would be appropriate,
· What resources, case studies, artifacts, or tools are available to support instruction,
· Instructional techniques that have succeeded and those that have failed
· What academic prerequisites or experience should be required,
· What the appropriate role of product-line engineering is in the teaching of software engineering as a whole.
Participants from industry are strongly encouraged to apply.
Contact either of the organizers to be invited. It is no longer necessary to submit a paper.
Participation in the workshop is by invitation. To be
invited, interested persons should submit a position paper that describes their
experience, ideas, and recommendations. The workshop will be a working session
so the position paper does not have to be a formal presentation piece. Rather
it should provide substantive information of interest to other workshop
participants
The position papers of accepted participants will be placed at a web site. Participants will be expected to read the papers prior to the workshop.
This workshop will be a working session. Participants will have already read the position papers. A working session will identify issues, delineate strategies for addressing each issue, and prepare a working plan for implementing the strategies. Depending upon the interests, backgrounds, and number of participants, there may be concurrent working groups.
The primary output from the workshop will be an agenda for future action. The organizers will collect the workshop contributions into a suitable publication. The size and formality of that publication will be determined as we progress in the workshop. The workshop organizers will participate in a special conference session in which the results of this and other workshops are presented. At the workshop, proposals for additional ways of communicating the results will be considered.
It is no longer necessary to submit a paper to be invited. Simply contact one of the organizers.
Interested persons should submit a position paper to one
of the organizers by June 1, 2002. Invitations will be issued by June 15, 2002.
Invited participants will be asked to furnish the organizers with a web address
pointing to their position paper.
