Careers in Computing
 
Opportunities for students who major in areas related to computing are better than ever. Numerous reports and studies have found that the demand for graduates with a degree in a computing field will be among the highest of all majors for the foreseeable future.

The ACM, the major professional organization for computing professionals, recently assembled a collection of web pages on career opportunities. Degree Programs The School
The school offers three undergraduate degree programs. Each program has a strong technical core that emphasizes the development of programming and problem solving skills. The programs differ in the junior and senior year on their emphasis in areas outside of computer science.
  • B.S. in Computer Science [Curriculum]: This technically oriented degree is well suited for students interested in software development for computer science, scientific and engineering applications. The degree is accredited by the national Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Graduates are well prepared for advanced studies in computer science or for challenging jobs in the computer field.

  • B.S. Computer Information Systems [Curriculum]: In addition to core computer science courses, this degree includes a strong emphasis area in courses selected from management, marketing, finance, economics and accounting. Students develop a good understanding of how information technology relates to business and are well prepared for jobs or advanced studies in any area of computer science.

  • B.A. in Computer Science [Curriculum] This liberal arts program includes a minor and provides the student with the maximum flexibility in designing a course of studies that supports his or her particular interests while at the same time providing a firm foundation in computer science. Graduates from this program have gone on to medical school, law school, business school, graduate programs in computer science and our own Masters of Fine Arts in Digital Production Arts program. Graduates also find a wide range of employment opportunities.

The School of Computing at Clemson offers a nationally-recognized faculty that prides itself on the quality of its teaching and that is very active in a wide range of research areas. Members of the faculty have received national recognition for undergraduate curriculum design which is reflected in the school's strong curricula. Each program provides students with a broad and solid background in computer science. Graduates of our programs are well prepared and highly recruited.

Majors have 24 hour access to a diverse set of school facilities that range from workstations, graphics systems, virtual reality systems, network labs and computer clusters.

The university and town are located on the edge of Lake Hartwell in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Clemson is a lively and pleasant place to live. Its mild climate, clean air and clean water make academic life at Clemson both a stimulating and enjoyable experience.

Courses

A diverse set of courses is offered by the school in areas such as network programming, cluster and distributed computing, software engineering, graphics, virtual reality, game engine design, database systems, programming languages, computer security and administration, operating systems, etc.
