Careers in Computing

Opportunities for students who complete undergraduate and advanced degrees in computing are better than ever. Numerous reports and studies have found that the demand for graduates with a degree in a computing field will be among the highest of all majors for the foreseeable future. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts:
Computer scientists and database administrators are expected to be among the fastest growing occupations through 2014. Employment of these computer specialists is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations as organizations continue to adopt and integrate increasingly sophisticated technologies. Job increases will be driven by very rapid growth in computer systems design and related services, which is projected to be one of the fastest growing industries in the U.S. economy.

The ACM, the major professional organization for computing professionals, recently assembled a collection of web pages on career opportunities. The link is http://computingcareers.acm.org/ Other sources of information on careers in computing include: BusinessWeek and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
